GM Kögler, Klaus (2542)

Klaus Kögler was born in 1965 in Wiesbaden (Germany). He learnt chess at the age of six from his grandfather who was a strong and surely enthusiastic amateur player in the 1920s and 1930s.

In 1984, he started with first correspondence chess tournament and immediately knew that this was "his" kind of chess. Consequently, Klaus more or less abandoned over-the-board play and went on to play only the postal way. In 2007, he was awarded with the GM title after fulfilling my third GM norm in the BCCA-100 invitational tournament.

He's married and has one daughter of 14 years. Moreover, there are also one black cat and two white rabbits in the family -- the choice of colour has nothing to do with chess :-) Currently, he lives in a small town named Dorfen, about 50 km East of Munich. He works as a freelance translator and writer. Among other things, he's a regular contributor to the German chess magazine Kaissiber.

Whenever he is not working or playing chess, he loves to enjoy good music, literature, movies and a nice glass of good wine.

Message from Klaus:
"I hope we can play exciting chess in a friendly atmosphere and I wish all of you good luck and best of skills! Finally, my sincerest thanks to Matjaz Pirs and the Slovenian Correspondence Chess Federation for kindly inviting me to this event."
